Welcome to the Wairarapa & Ruahine Aero Club website.


Located at Hood Aerodrome, in Masterton, the Wairarapa and Ruahine Aero Club has a long and proud tradition of flight training and recreational flying.


The club rooms are spacious with excellent amenities including a training room, bar, pool table, swimming pool and TV. The Aeroclub is the focus of social events at Hood with other operators such as Sport and Vintage Aviator and The Stick and Rudder Company specializing in vintage aircraft and WWI & WWII airworthy aircraft. Notable exhibits include a Corsair and P40, so there is always lots of hangar talk at the bar, for those passionate about aviation. Friday evenings from about 5pm are a good time for this.


The Aero Club itself currently has two Tecnam Sierra aircraft available for training and hire. The Tecnam Sierra P2002 is well suited to the local conditions and allow nearly anyone to give flying a go, being part of the LSA (light sports aviation) category, thus not requiring an in-depth medical to gain your License. Our CFI (Chief Flying Instructor) has vast aviation experience including a past world record for height in gliding and is currently also check pilot for Instructors for both the RAANZ and SAC flying authorities. Instruction is normally available 7 days a week subject to weather conditions.
